Faqs About Telehealth
Telephone visits are conducted over the telephone. Besides the Telehealth visits through our HIPPA compliant Zoom link, video visits are also offered through Doxy.me, and Facetime during COVID 19, a service that is available on Apple and Android devices. Our office will contact you at the phone number you provided on your health record to complete your “check-in” and provide you a specific timeframe during which your provider will evaluate you via telephone or video visit.
If you choose Doxy.me or Facetime, be sure your device is equipped with a camera and microphone (i.e. PC, MAC, Android or Apple device), and connected to Wi-Fi or set up to use your cellular data.

Telehealth
Telehealth, sometimes called telemedicine, allows your health care providers to care for you without an in-person office visit. Telehealth is done primarily online with internet access on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
There are several options for telehealth care:
- Talk to your health care provider live over the phone or video chat.
- Send and receive messages from your health care provider using secure messaging, email, and secure file exchange.
- Use remote monitoring so your health care provider can check on you at home. For example, you might use a device to gather vital signs to help your health care provider stay informed on your progress.
The Role of Telehealth in Mental Health (Telepsychiatry)
The shortage of quality care and access to care across the country and the fear of the social stigma keeps many people from seeking out treatment for their mental health needs. The mental health community is beginning to realize that they need to redefine health care to successfully address the mental health issue on a national level.
Advances in technology have made it possible to use telecommunications to provide behavioral health services, including telephone calls, text messages, electronic mail, images transmitted via fax machine, and real-time videoconferencing.
Mental health treatment relies on conversation, emotional connection, and validation, making telemedicine a game-changer in the field. There are a few fundamental ways in which telemedicine, or telepsychiatry, is revolutionizing mental health care:
- It Alleviates the Shortage of Mental Health Care Professionals
As more and more people are beginning to realize the importance of mental health care in their overall wellbeing, we are realizing the shortage of mental health care professionals. This is directly related to geographic location.
- It Makes Mental Health Care More Accessible and Convenient
With telepsychiatry on the rise, mental health care professionals can now virtually treat patients that live hundreds of miles away, closing the gap between location disadvantages and available treatment.
Accessibility involves more than the geographic location. Telemedicine opens the door to treatment for those who are mobile challenged, lack transportation options, and those who are recovering at home. As long as the patient has internet access, they will have access to treatment.
Telehealth is a safe and convenient option for getting behavioral health care at home. You may be able to attend appointments without needing transportation, taking time off work, or arranging for childcare. Those factors can be important in a long-term treatment plan.
- It Helps to Destigmatize Mental Health Treatment
While mental health treatment has become progressively more normalized, there is still a heavy stigma attached to it. Telemedicine has lifted mental health treatment into not only something that is easily accessible but also destigmatized. Telepsychiatry contributes immensely to the destigmatization of mental health treatment by offering patients the comfortability of seeking treatment from the privacy of their own homes.
- It is Revolutionizing Addiction Treatment
Opioid addiction is at an all-time high, especially in rural areas with little to no access to mental health treatment. This calls for greater addiction treatment reform, which has been implemented in the form of telepsychiatry to provide the necessary resources to the areas with the greatest need.
